How to reach munnar? - Bangalore to munnar -Distance from bangalore to munnar

Munnar is one of the most famous hill station in South India.These days people prefer Munnar than Ooty because of its scenic beauty and heavenly charm.
If you are planning a trip to Munnar from Bangalore the following are the suggested routes.It’s best that one starts early (5 or 6 AM) in the morning to reach Munnar by before it gets dark.Across the routes the Udumalpet -Munnar route offers amazing scenic beauty.The forest range starts from here and it’s a 70 km climb up the mountain till Munnar.The hill climb starts from Chinnar. Chinnar is famous for the Indira Gandhi National Park.


1.Bangalore-Kanakapura-Mysore-Chamrajnagar- Thimbum ghat-Sathiamangalam-Tirupur- Udumalpet- Munnar.
          Chamrajnagar-sathyamangalam stretch and Udumalpet-Munnar are hilly sections with scenic beauty.
2.Bangalore - Mysore- Nanjangud- Chamarajanagar- Sathtyamangalam- Punjaipuliampatti-Annur- Avanashi- Palladam- Udumalaipettai- Chinnar- Munnar.
          This is another route with a minor deviation.
3.Bangalore-Hosur-Krishnagiri-Thoppur-Mecheri-Mettur-Bhavani-Coimbatore, Pollachi and Udumalaipet.
              This is shorter route than Route no:3 and around 480 Kms.But you can view Mettur dam if   you choose this route.
4.Bangalore-Hosur-Krishnagiri-Dharmapuri-Bhawani-Salem-Perandurai-Vijapuri-Tirrupur-Paladam-Udumalapettai-Chinnar-Marayoor-Munnar
                This route is around 475 Kms.Along the Pollachi – Udumalapet route you will amazed with miles of green fields and lines of Windmills on both sides of road.
5.Bangalore - Krishnagiri –Dharmapuri-Salem-Erode-Avinashi-Coimbatore-Pollachi –Udumalapet – Chinnar – Munnar
        This is around 500 Kms.

Munnar possibly the most famous hill station in South India now.It is a town located in the Idduki district of India's Kerala state (God's Own Country).The Munnar panchayat in the Devikulam block is the largest panchayat in the Idduki district.Sprawling tea plantations, picture book towns, winding lanes, trekking and holiday facilities make Munnar a unique experience for the tourist and traveller.Idukki is the most beautiful High range district of Kerala.Idukki is the largest District of Kerala . About 97 percent of the total area of the District is covered by rugged mountains and forests.Idukki has three main rivers - Periyar, Thalayar and Thodupuzhayar - and their tributaries. The River Pamba also has its origin here.
Geography
Munnar is situated at the confluence of three mountain streams - Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala.
The region in and around Munnar varies in height from 2,000 meters (6,562 ft) to 2,600 meters (8,530 ft) above mean sea level.

Climate

Munnar enjoys a salubrious climate. The temperature ranges between −10 °C (14 °F) and 0 °C (32 °F) in winter and 8 °C (46.4 °F) and 16 °C (60.8 °F) in summer.

Season
The tourist season in Munnar is from August to May. However, even the monsoons are lovely with many streams and rivulets in the area and post drizzle the dew drenched tea gardens looking majestic and heavenly enshrouded in light mist .

Chithirapuram-10 km from Munnar

Rajamala is famous for Nilgiri tahr.This is the natural habitat of the Nilgiri tahr which is fast becoming extinct. The Nilgiri tahrs are today redused to small herds found in the Eravikulam-Rajamala region. The total number of Nilgiri tahrs in Rajamala is estimated at 1317.

Echo Point - 15 km from Munnar
Echo Point got it's name from the natural echo phenomenon here. Echo Point is on the way to Top Stations from Munnar.

Devikulam is a small hill station about 16 km southwest of Munnar from Munnar and is about 1800 meters above the sea level.
Devikulam with its velvet lawns, exotic flora and fauna and the cool mountain air is a rare experience. The Sita Devi Lake with its mineral waters and picturesque surroundings is a good picnic spot.

Erumely -
Erumeli is an important pilgrimage centre for Hindus and Muslims. The mosque is dedicated to Vavar, a contemporary and companion of Lord Ayyappa, the deity of the Sabarimala Temple. The mosque is famous for the centuries old custom of multitudes of Hindu pilgrims worshipping here before their trek to Sabarimala to worship Lord Ayyappa.

St. Mary's Church, Bharananganam, Pala:
The mortal remains of the St. Alphonsa (The first female saint of India) are entombed at this church which is now a famous pilgrim centre.

The St. Mary's Church built in 355 A.D on the high ganges of Kuravilangad town, this church has an old bell which bears a hitherto undeciphered inscription.


Pathiramanal:
This is a small white sand island, located in the middle of the Vembanad Lake on the border of Kottayam - Alapuzha Districts in Kerala.It gets its name from the brilliant reflection of moonlight from the sand.


Poonjar Palace -
Poonjar Palace is situatied in Meenachil taluk and is famous for its collection of antiques and exquisite furniture.


Vaikom Siva Temple -
Vaikom is around 40 km from Kottayam, famous for its Shiva Temple. Associated with the legendary Parasurama, this temple is a typical example of Kerala Temple Architecture.


Vembanad Lake -
Vembanad Lake is around 83 km length and 14.5 km width.
