IIM Kozhikode Signs MoU with Yale University

The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kozhikode, IIMK, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Yale University in the US.
The MoU would facilitate setting up of a Centre of Excellence in Academic Leadership (CEAL), a hub for training national and international faculty, deans and vice-chancellors of various universities.
The flagship programme of the partnership will be called India-Yale University Leadership Programme.
Apart from Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kozhikode, Yale University also signed agreements with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur to set up center of excellence in academic leadership to promote research and educational collaborations.
According to the media reports a six-member committee with equal participation from the three partnering institutes (IIMK, IITK and Yale university) will determine the norms/qualifications for participating in these leadership programmes.
This new initiative will help the IIMK to scale new glory in global higher education sector and to become a globally acclaimed premier institute. IIM, Kozhikode, which started in 1997 is ranked among the top five institutes in the country.

Thusharagiri waterfall - Thusharagiri How to reach from Kozhikode

Thusharigiri Falls is one of the most popular picnic spot in Kozhikode ditrict. Thusharigiri is famous for its waterfalls where one of the fall Thenpara that falls from an altitude of around 75 metres.Chalippuzha River diverges into three waterfalls like a snowy spray.
Thusharigiri is ideal for trekking. This is also one of the best known place in Kozhikode for rock climbing. Adventure tourism has lot of potential in this area. You can start trekking from Thusharigiri and can reach Vythiri in Wayanad district by evening. The trekking will be through dense forest. You need to carry all the necessary things required for trekking.

Thusharagiri is around 50 kilometres from Kozhikode city. There are bus services available to Kodencherry which is the nearest town of Thusharagiri. You need to travel 11 KMs from Kodencherry to reach Thusharagiri. There are accommodation available i Kodencheri town. Or you can stay in Kozhikode itself. There are many towns on the way to Kodencheri.

There are many places in and around Calicut with immense natural beauty. Kozhikode also known as Calicut is an ancient port city and today is the third largest city of Kerala. Krishna Menon Museum situated at East Hill is five km by bus from the Railway station and city bus station. Maintained by the State Archaeological Department and consists of ancient coins, models of temples, mural paintings, antique bronzes, dolmenoid cists and other items of archeological importance.

Thali Temple

A temple of Lord Shiva which is renovated in the 18th Century and includes shrines of Ganapati, Narasimha and Saasta. The temple is constructed in 14th century by Swamy Thirumulpad, the Zamorin of Calicut.

Dolphin’s Point

A wonderful place located about 2 km away from the city where one can see dolphin’s playing in the sea in the early morning. There is a Lions Club Park and the Light House there.

Mananchira

Manchiria is the heart of the city. Mananchira hosts cites important institutions like town hall and the public library. The Mananchira square is a good place to spend your evening.

Science Planetarium

Science Planetarium reveals the mysteries of universe and enlightens about the planets and stars. Situated in the heart of the city near Moffusil bus stand.

Kadalundi Bird Sanctuary

Located 25 kms away from Kozhikode city. Kadalundi is the home for migratory birds. Starting from November till end of April Kadalundi becomes a dwelling place for thousands of migratory birds including Terns, Gulls, Herons, Sand pipers and Whim brels.

Kappad Beach

Kappad is 16 km away from Kozhikode city. Kappad is one of the most best beaches in the city and is in this beach that the Portuguese Navigator Vasco Da Gama landed on his discovery of the sea route from Europe to India in 1498.

Peruvannamuzhi

Peruvannamuzhi is 60kms from Kozhikode city. The Peruvannamuzhi dam site, surrounded with hills is a beautiful picnic spot. The Peruvannamuzhi reservoir provided facilities for speedboat and rowboat cruises.

Kakkayam

Kakkayam is around 78 km from calicut city. The orakuzhi water falls and dam site are places of interest.

Christ University opens Nodal office at Thiruvananthapuram

Christ University Bangalore formerly Christ College has set up its first Nodal office in Kerala at Vazhuthacad, Thiruvananthapuram. The nodal office would function as a Research Centre as well as as the Information Centre of the university.
The center would function as a knowledge centre for any research activities where researchers will be able to use Christ universities Online Library, connected to the Christ University Library in Bangalore, to access about 15,000 journals and books for reference
According to media reports the Thiruvananthapuram nodal office would also be used for conducting workshops and seminars, besides meetings of Christ University students from Kerala
Established in July 1969 by CMI congregation, Christ College became the most preferred educational institution in the city of Bangalore within the first three decades.Ministry of Human Resources Development of the Union Government of India had declared Christ College as a Deemed to be University, in the name and style of Christ University on July 22, 2008.

According to media reports Anthony Bourdain, the intrepid celebrity chef and host of the Discovery Travel channel's culinary programme, shot the episode in the state. India's first Circus Academy opened at Thalassery

Thalassery or Tellichery produced many famous circus artists as well as known for many home for many circus companies.Thalassery always considered as the cradle of Circus industry not in Kerala but in India. The first Circus Academy of the country is inaugurated at Chirakunni near Thalassery.Kerala Sports Minister M Vijayakumar inaugurated the Circus Academy. The Kerala state government aiming to take the Circus academy to international standards with the cooperation of tourism department.
According to the media reports a permanent building for the academy over 10 acres of land would constructed at Kundoormala this year and the state government had made a budgetary allocation of Rs 25 lakhs for developing the academy.
The circus industry was almost dead in Kerala. This new move from government could rejuvenate this long neglected sports.

CBSE to Offer Courses on Mass Media Studies and Geospatial Practices

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to offer Courses on Mass Media Studies and Geospatial Practices at the senior secondary level, initially on a pilot basis for 33 schools.Union Human Resource and Development (HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal launched courses.According to the media reports the agreements in this regard was signed between CBSE Chairman Vineet Joshi and Whistling Woods International with whom they are partnering for the Mass Media courses and between the CBSE and Rolta India Ltd. with whom they are partnering in the Geospatial study courses.
The Mass Media studies will be Academic/Vocational course and Geospatial Practices will be Vocational course.
This is a welcome development and will encourage our children to take up new challenges in the fields of Mass Media and Geospatial practices.

Kozhikode gets Hospitality Management Institute

Another major institute coming up in Kozhikode.State Institute of Hospitality Management inaugurated at calicut.
Kozhikode already have many major education institutions including IIMK (Indian Institute of management) and NIT (National Institute of Technology).It also has numerous engineering colleges and Medical colleges including the Calicut Medical College (CMC).
There are 50 seats for the three year BSc programme, and the students are selected through an All India entrance test.
The institute will soon have added facilities and would start research programmes in hotel management and hospitality management. Most probably the institute will come up in the west hill area of Kozhikode.

Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) Thiruvananthapuram

IIST was inaugurated on 14 September, 2007 by Dr. G. Madhavan Nair, Chairman ISRO.IIST is sponsored by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) under Department of Space, Government of India. Dr. Abdul Kalam, former President of India, is the chancellor of IIST.
IIST offers graduate and postgraduate programs in space science and technology, and also serves as a research center.
IIST Admission Test Trivandrum- ISAT 2010
IIST offers undergraduates B Tech programme in Avionics, Aerospace Engineering and Physical Sciences. IIST also offers post graduate and doctoral programmes to meet the requirements of Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).

Currently, IIST functions on a fully equipped campus which is adjacent to Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre located on the Veli Hills, 12 kilometers from Trivandrum Central Railway Station and 4 Kilometers from the Airport. The main campus shall be functioning at Valiyamala, which is 18 kilometers from Trivandrum Central Railway Station.

Varkala Beach
Varkala is a very secluded beach situated at a distance of 51km from Thiruvananthapuram.Hundreds of Hindu devotees perform 'Vavubali', a ritual performed for the ancestors soul to rest in peace, on the new moon day of the Malayalam month Karkidam.


Veli Tourist Village
Located very near to Trivandrum international Airport and the famous Sankhumukham Beach, Veli village is 10km from the city. The attraction is a waterfront park where the lake merges with the sea. Its gardens have been landscaped by lively sculptures of Kanai Kunjiraman.

Aruvikkara Dam
Situated on the banks of the Karamana River, this picturesque picnic spot lies 16km north of Thiruvananthapuram. Trivandrum city gets its water supply from the Aruvikkara reservoir. There is an ancient temple dedicated to Durga, on the banks of the river.

Agastyakoodam
Agasthyarkoodam is 70 km from Thiruvananthapuram. About 1869 meters above sea level, Agastyakoodam is one of the highest peaks in the Western Ghats. This peak, a pilgrim centre of the Hindus, according to tradition was home to the great sage Agastya, who was a confirmed bachelor. Hence Women are not allowed up the peak.This is an ideal place for trekking.
Meenmutti and Kombaikani Waterfalls
These are two magnificent waterfalls on the upper reaches of the Neyyar reservoir.
A trek of two kilometers, through dense forests, would take one to Meenmutty Falls, and a further two km, to the Kombaikani waterfalls.

Ponmudi
Ponmudi is a a pleasant hillstation with an elevation of 912 m above sea level, Ponmudi is reached by road from Thiruvananthapuram. Ponmudi is 61 km from Trivandrum city.

Akkulam
Akkulam is one of the picnic spots, in Trivandrum city. The spot is developed on the banks of Akulam Lake.The international convention centre, which will be the largest in Kerala is under construction in Akkulam.

The Zoological Park
Located near PMG junction, Thiruvananthapuram Zoo, the second oldest zoo in India is spread over 55 acres of land set amidst lakes, lawns and woodlands. The park is part of a well-planned botanical garden. It was established in 1857 AD as an annexe to the Museum by the Maharaja of Travancore.
